Deacon Dan Giblin

Deacon Dan Giblin is a Roman Catholic deacon ordained in 2011 for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. He currently serves at St. Ann Parish in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, assisting with Sunday liturgies, baptisms, and parish ministry.

After retiring from a career with IBM, Deacon Dan transitioned into full-time ministry in behavioral health and addiction recovery. He served for several years as a Spiritual Care Advisor and clinician at the St. John Vianney Center in Downingtown, PA — the nation’s oldest treatment center dedicated to the mental health and recovery needs of clergy and religious. There, he worked with inpatient residents, providing spiritual direction, and participated in co-occurring disorders treatment programs.

In 2024, he transitioned to a part-time role in St. John Vianney Center’s outpatient department, conducting spiritual assessments for men and women entering seminary and religious life.

Recognizing the need for peer recovery support among clergy and religious, Deacon Dan helped establish a Zoom-based AA meeting that has been meeting weekly since November 2025 and now serves priests and sisters from across the United States.

Deacon Dan has been sober and active in 12-Step recovery since 1984. He attended his first Matt Talbot Retreat in 1987 and later helped found the Daylesford Group at the Abbey in 1989. Since 2013, he has served as retreat master for dozens of recovery retreats at retreat centers throughout the eastern US.

He is a Pennsylvania State Certified Recovery Specialist and has authored articles on addiction and recovery for both national and local publications.

Deacon Dan is a graduate of St. Charles Borromeo Seminary’s School of Diaconal Studies and Villanova University’s College of Professional Studies Alcohol and Drug Certificate Program.

He is married and the proud father of one daughter.
