Sixth International Receptive Ecumenism Conference

June 1 – 4, 2027 at Holy Mountain Franciscan Retreat Center at Graymoor in Garrison, NY.

Receptive Ecumenism has been described as a fresh new way of engaging the ministry of Christian unity. Adding to the existing work of theological dialogue and partnership, Receptive Ecumenism invites churches to consider which areas of learning they may receive from their ecumenical other for their own growth and development, so they may more faithfully reflect Christ within their context.

This conference will introduce Receptive Ecumenism and ask how learning from others may positively shape our ecclesial imaginations—how we imagine the church to be now and into the future. This question will be explored through various plenary lectures by leading theologians, panel discussions on how Receptive Ecumenism is being engaged today, times of joint worship and conversation with the many guests who will be participating throughout the conference.

Along with this, a call for papers will be issued, inviting participants to submit their insights for consideration for both presentation and future publication.

Due to a limited number of rooms on-site, we ask that participants register early. If on-site accommodations are sold out, nearby hotels are available.

Speakers include Jonathan Ciraulo (Catholic University of America), Elizabeth Newman (Baptist World Alliance), Pavil Gravrilyk (St. Thomas University, Director of the International Orthodox Theological Association), Karen Swallow Prior (Author), Paul Murray (Durham University), Jim Puglisi (Franciscan Friars of the Atonement), Greg Ryan (Durham University) and Myriam Wijlens (University of Erfurt).
