Broken, Beautiful, and Beloved: Learning to See Ourselves Through God’s Eyes
So often we imagine that in order to be loved we must become better, different, perfect. But what if the things we think need to be “fixed” in order to make us more lovable – flaws and weaknesses, mistakes and sins – are the very things that make us beautiful in our own way?
In this retreat, we will use Psalm 139 as a touchstone and will learn to see our brokenness as a beauty mark instead of a scar. We will use prayer, stories, humor, journaling, music, and more to begin to remove the filters that color our vision and see ourselves as God does — wonderfully made, imperfections and all. This retreat will include silent breakfasts, optional morning stretch class, and a Saturday workshop that brings the retreat topic to life through the beautiful art of Japanese Kintsugi, where broken pottery is repaired using silver and gold to make the pieces more beautiful and more valuable because they are broken.
A weekend retreat for anyone who is dealing with the stresses of daily life. Remember that you are always connected to God. Take time to heal, meditate, and pray.
Mary Deturris Poust brings laughter and joy to every talk and helps create the conditions for us to remember not to be so hard on ourselves.
“We’re all struggling with similar things, yet we keep moving forward and learning.”
Kintsugi is Japanese for “golden joinery.” It’s the art of repairing broken pottery by mending the areas of breakage with a lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum
As a philosophy, it treats breakage and repair as part of an object’s history, rather than as something to cover up. Come to the Holy Mountain for a weekend to repair, heal, and find your beauty.
Friday dinner through Sunday breakfast.
Private Rooms. $325.
